this might prompt someone with more detailed knowledge to answer your question.
it probably has to do with a setting in ie6 that controls the delay between 
'go' and puting up the 'unobtainable' page.
i think i saw this in the utility 'freshui' when i had it.

hi all I have a friend the just reformatted her computer an has reinstall
all her software
the problem is now when she tries to use internet explorer
no matter what url it tries to send her to the search page as if you had
typed the address wrong she get page can not be displayed  thanks for any
ideas on how to fix it
