I bought the printer at Best Buy and bought the cable there too. I know
I paid more than $8.50, but I don't recall the price I paid.
I always did think it odd you have to purchase the cable to make the
thing work separately.

If you HAVE to buy a Dell, the printer cable will work. They are
stamped
out by the millions. The ones sold with Gateways that cost over $20.00
