Tim, if you want to rent a propane heater that is up to you. I will throw in 10 bucks but I don't think most of the members would have the money. Maybe you can talk Terri and Mike into having PAS pay for some of it.. If not, I think that people can just go inside the building on the north entrance for 10 minutes at a time to warm up and use the bathrooms and then come outside again. I am bringing a space heater for Mike and an extension cord, but I told Mike there may not be electricity available. Also, a propane heater throws off a lot of turbulence, if you set it up, put it by Mike, away from the telescope viewing. I have 4 people coming to the event: my niece, her husband, and 2 of my golfing buddies. I did an indoor/ outdoor party for Haley's Comet viewing at my house in Dec 1985 and rented 2 propane heaters at A-Z rentals and they do work. Skippy Sky is also predicting very clear skies, but even lower temperatures and 5-10 MPH winds out of the North. With my snow suit, it's a no-biggie either way. Here's an idea - A-Z Equipment rental rents propane heaters for $60 / day. Maybe a good idea to get one to provide a relief point for our less outdoorsy attendees? We should try to arrive before 6 pm so we are ready to observe before 7 pm. We have Mike on meteorites, Don, Sam, Frank, Eric, Darlene and Earl , most with telescopes. The Bad Donkey should be open if people want to grab a bite before 7 pm. Tuesday @BM, Thursday @PVCC, and a school Friday, I can probably only do 2 of the 3, so I have to decide which one not to attend. I am leaning towards doing BM and the school. I will bring a few extra cups, but it would be nice if PAS people brought their favorite hot drinks. So far I see Mike, Sam, Frank, Eric, Earl, Darlene, and Don as having rsvp'd. Dress warm, with parkas, hats, gloves. Tonight the seeing looks beautiful and it is cold. No doubt it will be cold at PVCC Blk Mountain. I just hate to cancel since we cancelled Nov and Dec and 3 times in a row is very sad indeed. However, if enough of you don't want to do it, let me know and I will ask Terri to cancel. Right now, however, I still want to give it a try. If you get real cold, we can take turns going inside the PVCC building to warm up for a few minutes. There will be a lot of good objects to view: Jupiter, Orion Nebula, Andromeda Galaxy, M81 & M82, Gamma Andromeda double star, etc...Let's try to make it work. So the temp should be 40 degrees at 7 pm and then get to the mid 30's by 10 pm. We should be out of there by 10 pm. Mike and I and Frank are still planning on doing the Jan 15th event. If it clouds up or if there are strong winds we can reconsider. But so far Skippy Sky says no clouds, The Weather Channel says no clouds and Accuweather says no clouds so I think we should still do it. Again, things could change so we should continue to monitor it each day. If anyone does back out, please let me know asap. While the official low for last night was 37º, it hit 29º here north of Pinnacle Peak. So, keep that in mind when we're looking at BMCC - it will be a good bit chillier than the Phoenix report.
