PAS is setting up to do 2 locations for this event.
Here's the proposal:
*May 9* 2016 has an awesome Opportunity to show the public the *Mercury
Transit*.
The time frame of the event would be:
The Transit is from 4:30am to 11:42am.
The viewing of this event, provided by PAS through Solar Scopes could be
from *7:30am to 12:15pm with 7am set up of scopes.*
We are looking for a location to hold this viewing event. We thought one or
both of the PVCC campus' would be a good choice.
For Black Mountain Campus, we could set up on the new Deck.
For PVCC Main Campus, we could set up in the Overflow parking lot by the G
building.
Here's the proposal by Sam, President of PAS, for this event.
Sunrise is at 5:30 am May 9th, and the transit starts a little before that
(around 4:15 am). I suggest we arrive at PVCC at *7 am** and set up* and
begin showing at 7:30 am. That gives the sun 2 hours to clear any
buildings. Also, the first classes begin at 8 am so that students can view
the sun and mercury on their way to their classes. This also gives the
public a chance to view on their way to work. The transit ends a little
before noon (11:42 am), so I suggest we keep the telescopes up until 12:15
pm so students can view the sun, even without mercury, at the start of
their lunch break.
RSVP at the PVCC Campus (Main or BMC) you wish to assist at. I'd like to
see a minimum of 1 helper and 1 solar scope at each location.

Many thanks to Sam for the research for this event, and to Loretta & Jenny
for offering to have PAS on the PVCC Campus's for this event.
After we are sure we are doing this at both Campus's, i will add this event
to the public calendar. Doing this event means we have a minimum of 1
solar scope and 1 helper at each location.
