Wrong again!  It WAS the memory stick after all.  For some reason best
known to itself, it doesn't work through 2 or more USB hubs.  Confirmed
on a PC which complained 'unidentified device' when plugged in via 2
hubs.

(The 7-port internal USB hub is, in fact, two 4-port hubs chained
together.  The front sockets of my PandaRO were plugged into ports 5
and 6 of this hub, which this memory stick didn't like.  All is fine
now the front sockets are plugged into ports 1 and 2.)
