Both a strength and a weakness of our military is sometimes its naive lack of
understanding of the nature of national- level politics. Even though he'd been
around the WH for years I don't doubt that Powell felt that he had been duped
by Cheney and the CIA, and maybe George too, and made to look like a fool. His
anger may have contributed to his decision to support Obama? Maybe? That
doesn't change the fact that he was himself a man of charisma and integrity and
deserves to be called one of the great men of the late 20th century.

Obama never fooled me for a nanosecond. The country as a whole has become so
dumbed down that we now elect sociopaths like Obama and Biden to be the

was palpable. The Iran nuclear deal was so transparently aimed at reducing
Israel to a radioactive ash pit that it is still a mystery to me why so many

Obama conned many of us. Like Bill Clinton, he charmed his way into office. I
thought he really meant he would unite the country, then watched him jam his
health care bill down everyone's throats. The charm wore off fast. Possible
that he simply conned Powell also, but I agree the race triumphed all for black

I met him once in the 1990s and asked him to run. Then he supported Obama in
2008 and I lost all, and I mean all, respect for the man. If he couldn't see
through Obama's severe pathologies and frankly evil, his judgment was fatally
flawed. It was my first inkling that in the 21st century in the US, race trumps
all other considerations.
