I wonder if I could offer some explanatory ideas on the terminology of
beekeeping for those who are new to the game? Recently we have had terms
like apiary, hive, etc used to describe (I think!) the actual bees. I would
say that beekeepers have a *colony* of bees who occupy a *hive* which
stands in their *apiary*. The colony might *swarm* (verb) and the group of
bees leaving and forming a cluster would be called a *swarm* (noun) until
it is 'hived' when it becomes a *colony* in its own right. Is that helpful?
