Thank you both for some great tips. A friend said I needed a jig to make
them with and that's where he lost me!! So good luck Chris
Gill, thank you so much for offering a frame, that would be great. My
address is Tar Farm Cottages, Tar Road, Stanton Harcourt, OX29 5AL
If I can find some frames that fit, it will make my life so much easier.

Hi Helen
Some years ago I ordered a pallet of Layens hives from Spain, where the
hive is very popular. The firm also sells Layens frames for 0.99€ each.

These frames fit Leo Sharashkin's dimensions close enough.
They are simply made with a fishing wire comb support, but so far I
haven't any complaints. The bees get on well with them.
I have a couple spare so if you send me your address I'll put one in the
post for you to look at.

Hi Helen,
Coincidentally I'm planning on building a Layen's hive myself. I'm
planning on going with the EU width and US depth. The only people I have
ever found with have some form of frame making machine are in Russia:

In the absence of being able to/ wanting to trade with Russia, I'm
thinking that I can build a jig for my table saw that will allow me to make
to top bars and the rest of the bits (based on the frames I got from 'La
tienda del apicultor').

Good evening all,
I wondered if anyone has a Layens hive they built themselves and how you
made the frames?
I had a Layens built last year using the plans from
https://horizontalhive.com/ they have plans for the frames as well, but
I don't have the right kit to make them and unfortunately, standard Layens
frames from thornes don't fit the hive.
Any suggestions would be welcome as I would really like to get the hive
finished and occupied.
Many thanks
Helen
