Well, at least knowing that the maintenance guy is gonna tell the apartment
manager, you don’t have to be involved. Likely the niece was in a huge rush and
maybe wanted to see things get used by someone else or thrown away rather than
moved … at least that’s my guess.

I agree that the apartment manager should have been consulted. Then she could
have used her disgression as to what to do. Usually when a person on section 8
housing moves, they're supposed to follow the rules. They have to let housing
know and to give a 30-day notice. What I don't understand is how there could be
stuff struned all over the floor instead of in boxes. People who are moving
don't usually strune stuff all over the place. My neighbors Brian and Tina said
it looked more like a robbery than it did someone who's moving out. Awhile back,
Pat did say she was tired of being alone and that she doesn't have family out
here. I think our maintenance man Ray said he would tell Elena the apartment
manager what's going on.

It does take some time to disconnect a phone number, but I think if I were in
your shoes, I’d at least let the apartment manager know what you’ve observed so
that the manager can use his or her discression as to whether or how far to get
involved. The manager certainly should have been consulted.

Hi, everyone,
Saturday I called my next-door neighbor to wish her happy birthday. Her niece
answered the phone so I thought she had come from Chicago to visit Pat. No such
thing. Pat was in Chicago and her niece is staying in her apartment. Now it gets
even weirder. Some people came yesterday and put Pat's things all over the
floor. It looked more like a robbery instead of someone moving out. Pat's niece
called her for me so I could talk to her. I asked Pat if she was in Chicago to
visit relatives or if she was moving to Illinois permanently. She said the move
was permanent. She didn't bother to let anybody here know--not even the manager
or section 8 housing. What I'm wondering is this. Why would Pat's phone still be
connected? Why would her things be scattered all over the floor of her
apartment? We're all wondering what the right thing would be to do. She had
originally planned to move out in November of last year but she changed her
mind---that is until now. I know she wants to be close to her family and that's
understandable--especially since she's elderly. It's just the idea that she
didn't let anybody know she was leaving.
