First off, an early happy birthday to you. Whatever you end up doing outside of
the ham radio class, I hope you have a really nice day and that the weather is
warm enough for you to get out and enjoy.
I know for a long time you had a goal of getting into ham radio classes, and the
fact that you're in such a class now is quite an achievement of a goal. But, if
the classes aren't working out, perhaps Hadley School might have something
available which you could take on a correspondence basis, plus, I know they have
algebra classes available. If anyone can make that yucky subject
understandable, they probably could, after all, most of the teachers are blind
themselves. I think Hadley has an 800 number, but not sure. I'm about to leave
in a few minutes to get a replacement state identification card, but once I get
back, I'll see if I can find out what their number is so you can give them a
call and determine what classes they have that might interest you. Also, you'd
probably have to go to an eye doctor to get proof of blindness, which is after
all understandable.
Sure wish I could help you with the brailler issues. I could at least type out
an address label for you and send it to you. But, as for getting the machine
down to UPS or whomever, you might want to call the store closest to where you
live to see if they can pick it up from your home and help you box it and maybe
even address it. When my friend got her Victor Stream repaired, HumanWare gave
her an authorization number and scheduled someone from UPS to come to her house
and pick up the machine. They already had address labels with her return
address and their address printed out so all the UPS driver had to do was to
attach the labels to the box. If you were sending the brailler to Howe Press
via UPS or U.S. Post Office, all the pick-up person would have to do is to make
sure it is boxed and packaged well and to make address labels or write onto the
box itself. But, I would say get in contact with the store. You may have to
pay extra, and I would imagine in this case you would definitely have to pay
extra, but it would certainly be worth it as you can't walk the brailler down to
the store yourself because of your shoulder injuries.
