Color is not all that important. Bright and easy to see in the sky would be
nice but there again we are just trying the “proof of concept” to entice other
to try RC combat flying. And I have lots of rattle can paint . . .

I have not tried to print yet, but I'm not sure what color would be wanted.
Getting your setting setup right can be a problem.
All I need to do is load up whatever color someone wants and they can go from
there.

No offense on my side if I do not print these, I only have pla currently and
would be interested in seeing both materials. I am just excited for combat and
a potential reason to print.
The pod has not printed successfully for me yet so I will not be able to
complete one today as I had hoped.
Larry, do you mind starting to print one with petg?
Pilots, would you suggest oak or poplar dowels for this?

Hi Rick,
I like the idea and will try it. You and I can stage a demo once we have
the fighters built.
My one question is how do you program the flight controls?

Wow, no comments from the flying community just two 3-D printer/drone
guys, Larry and Max. Guess no one wants to wants to try out something new.
I’m game to try it, if for no other reason, something to do that different.
Now my dilemma, who’s going to print out the parts? I don’t want to offend
anyone on printing the parts. What to do?????

I would be printing with PETG as it holds up better in the sun.
Depending on what setting to be used for the Fuselage.
Here is what I came up with.
Build time: 14 hours 47 minutes
Filament length: 45856.7 mm
Plastic weight: 137.87 g (0.30 lb)
Material cost: 4.14
or
Build time: 14 hours 40 minutes
Filament length: 45716.3 mm
Plastic weight: 137.45 g (0.30 lb)
Material cost: 4.12
I would be printing with a .4 nozzle, but a .8 would be faster, but I do
not have a .8 nozzle. I do have a .6 that I have not used.
Playing with the setting it could be made, but not sure how well it
works.
Build time: 11 hours 49 minutes
Filament length: 36616.4 mm
Plastic weight: 110.09 g (0.24 lb)
Material cost: 3.30
I guess what color do you want?

A few of us have been messing around with parachute drops. Next month
we are having a Fun Fly and mostly will incorporate an optional parachute drop.
Your servo drop mechanism would sure add to the fun!

This would be cool, the only issue I could see is that we would have
more crashes further from the runway. But with the addition of the colored
flags it seems we have much better luck retrieving.
The material cost and time is very reasonable.
Fuselage $1.90 8.5 hours
Wing hold down $.15 2 min
Tail $.76 3.25 hours
Motor mount $.18 3 mins
I’ve been messing around with some servo drop mechanisms and was
thinking competing to drop the closest to a target could be a fun event as
well. Perhaps I could even build a mechanism into this fuselage.
I have started to print one all in pla (cheap) I should have it
finished printing tomorrow and will see if I can find dowels/ electronics

I do not think it would cost much at all, and there are some upgrades

I would think it would be more who wants one made for them.
Here is one of the mods https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4712890
Also this mode. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4944018
Looking around $10.00 to 3D print.

Does this mean I need to fire up my 3D printer?

The May 2022 issue of Model Aviation had an article on RC Combat.
The E1000 class looks like cheap fun. One plane consists of only a few parts
-- three pieces that are 3D printed, two 12” dowels, a sheet of Dollar store
foam board and some bits and pieces to hold hold things together. Just add a
motor and electronics and start flying.

Any takers on trying some RC combat???
