In my experience if ASM is saying the disk doesn't exist it's likely for good
reason. There could be a few things that were missed along the way.
What OS? unix
How are you mapping device to your /dev path (ASMlib, UDEV, etc...) ? How do I
check this? I don’t know.
Does the /dev path actually exist? Yes it is /dev/oracleasm/
What are the disk's permissions? drwxr-xr-x 2 root sys 8192
May 19 07:11 oracleasm So do I need to be root to add it?
What OS account is ASM running as? oracle
If you're using ASMlib, What does your ASM disk discovery path currently look
like? Don’t know this…..
Has the disk been 'stamped' with oracleasm prior to your attempt to add the
disk?
I saw this when I googled for asm. Do I have to run /etc/init.d/oracleasm
createdisk cert_asmdisk118 /dev/oracleasm?

Log in with sysasm
And run
alter diskgroup cert_dg1
add disk '/dev/oracleasm/cert_asmdisk118'
but get:
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-15032: not all alterations performed
ORA-15031: disk specification '/dev/oracleasm/cert_asmdisk118' matches no disks
What am I doing wrong?
