I'd create a one line init file in the default location with the default name that points to the new location with the spfile parameter:

spfile='/path/to/new/location/spifleSID.ora'
Easier to start up the database in the middle of the night without trying to remember where you put the file.

So if I create an spfile in an alternate location, do I startup the db with the spfile= like I did with my pfile? Yes I want to use an alternate location and not the default.......
