Then give it a try,. By all that I know about the internals Oracle
should roll the control file scn up to the lowest one that's stored in
the datafiles without problems. Course I can always be wrong.

I do have all the archived logs and redo logs after the backup but none
before the backup. But I 'm not sure if rman would do an incomplete
recovery till Jul 21, 2009 10 AM.

My gut tells me you will need archive logs, at least for the
duration that the backup ran.

        Hi All,
I would like to know if an incomplete recovery is possible in
the following scenario:

control file back up from May 05, 2009.
Incremental level 0 backup taken on Jul 21, 2009 that completed
8 AM
Is it possible to do an incomplete recovery till Jul 21, 2009 10
AM.
There are no archivelogs between May 05, 2009 and Jul 21, 2009.

The back up is the only back up and there are no archivelogs.
Thanks in advance. Would RMAN use this control file and apply the
changes from backup. To my knowledge, RMAN would need archive logs to
apply redo. Would appreciate if someone could reply at the earliest as I
need to try it out right away.
