The Oracle documentation talks about doing just that..... As does my RMAN book.
Have a lookie at
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/backup.112/e10643/rcmsubcl002.htm#i78730

See if you find your answer there. something along the line of backup
archivelog
from time 'sysdate - 4/24';

Note that this would get you all archived redo logs generated AFTER 4 hours
ago.
So if it was generated 4 hours ago or earlier you would not get it backed up,
if
it was generated 3:59:59 ago it would get backed up.

Cheers!

Subject: rman archivelog backup

All,

Is there a way to take the rman backup of archivelog for last 4 hours .

reason- sometimes we clone based on a full backup . but we dont always take
rman backup of archivelogs . so idea is to just take the full backup + 4 hours
of archivelog to make the duplicate run successfully. otherwise the duplicate
fails and it is a mess to bring it up .

appreciate any suggestions

thanks
