Joe,

I am on 9.2.0.5. Sorry for the typo.
It is not letting me create the DB if the symbolic links exists. It
complains that the file already exists. It is treating the soft links as
files. All my 8174 databases are using the soft links and I need to upgrade
them to 9205.

My first question would be this "why in the world are you using 9.2.0.1,
when there is a 9.2.0.5 out for i think every darn platform".

install the binaries, patch it to 9.2.0.5 and then try it.

***** ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW *****

 Dear List Members,

Has anyone encountered the following problem on Sun Sparc Solaris 5.8?

If I use symbolic links, create database stmt fails in oracle 9.2.0.1.
 If I

remove the soft links, create database stmt succeeds.

I am forced to remove symbolic links and use direct path for Logfiles,

system file, tempfile and undofile etc. from the create database stmt.
 Does

it mean that the symbolic links are not permitted in Oracle 9.2.0.1 ? I

have several 8.1.7.4 databases that use symbolic links. Do I need to
 change

them before upgrading to 9.2.0.1? Am I obligated to follow OFA in 9.2
 ??

Please let me know if anyone has experienced the above problem.

I am on Sun Sparc Solaris 5.8.
