Are you sure RMAN can't run the datafile restore? Did you run into an
error on the datafile restore itself, or did you hit an error mounting
the backup controlfile while trying to get everything started?
You probably wouldn't be able to mount the controlfile directly because
of the endian-mismatch, but you could probably re-create the
controlfile then re-catalog all the backups. Then RMAN might be able
to physically restore the other-endian datafiles (but I've never tried
this) before it does the convert.
Just an idea, might be worthless. :)
