I haven't done both of those, but you might want to look at 11g Active
DataGuard. It gives you the ability to have a physical standby that you
can actively read from. Of course, it depends on what the Streams
Database is (purely for reporting or another database that has
replicated data but also performs other functions, etc.)

Subject: Oracle Streams and Data Guard
We've recently been told that we will likely need to set up Oracle
Streams to replicate some data from our main production database to
another database. We're also in the process of setting up a new
disaster recovery site using a standby database...to get the data
from our main production database.
I'm familiar with the standby database approach...at least an 8i
version. Data Guard doesn't look that much different as far as the
way to set things up. Oracle Streams looks like it does something
similar to a logical standby, using a different process.
I'm wondering if anyone is using Data Guard with their primary
database also using Oracle Streams to send data to a different
database. If so, are there any details to be aware of...like in
the case of a disaster when the primary goes down and the standby
comes up as the primary...should the standby somehow be configured
to use Oracle Streams to pass the data to the database that was
receiving it from the primary before the disaster?
I have read through some of the documentation, but not all of it, so
my questions may be answered in what I haven't read. I'm just curious
if anyone else is doing something similar and is interested in sharing
their insights/experiences.
