I got the knife once- I was a consultant and the Real dba didn't like having
me around -He loved the database stopping and being  called in to fix it. He
was the hero and probably got some cash for it. I got it running reliably
with space monitoring etc etc. This kind of relates to the problem that you
don't know when you have a good dba - and think he or she does nothing!

He didn't tell me everything I need to know for some overnight work on the
production system. Chaos the next day  contract not renewed.!
