Let's assume that it crashes. What makes you think it has anything to do
with swap? I'm just curious.

I would say use the recommended number. You might try this experiment on a
test server only, not production):
set the swap to 2G (when you have say, 64G RAM). Set the SGA_TARGET to 20G
or so. Set lock_sga and/or pre_page_sga to true, and start the database and
see what happens. I have heard it can crash the server.

I had always used the rule of thumb for putting 1.5 swap to RAM on Linux
Servers
We are installing OEL 5.2, 10G 3 node RAC cluster with 64G of RAM.
When I looked at the Metalink install doc 421038.1 it says:
Between 1024 MB and 2048 MB
1.5 times the size of RAM
Between 2049 MB and 8192 MB
Equal to the size of RAM
More than 8192 MB
0.75 times the size of RAM
Has anyone installed this and what are you using.
Have you also used hugepages?
