Niall, I'm headed in the direction of OID. Reason is that mixing the Oracle = naming system with AD will introduce another responsible party who is = having enough trouble with maintaining DNS in AD right now. Sometimes = having responsibility spread around works out better and faster in the = first place. However when I tried it (8.1.5 and 7.3 days) I couldn't get it to work reliably. Of course back then all I knew about networking was that there were boxes with lights on involved, so it was probably down to me. Now I understand that there is electric string as well. As for AD, we already have that - we are windows only. I'm hoping that using AD makes good technological and business sense (we have AD experts as well as Oracle folk in house) for us. --=20 Niall Litchfield Oracle DBA http://www.niall.litchfield.dial.pipex.com ---------------------------------------------------------------- Please see the official ORACLE-L FAQ: http://www.orafaq.com ---------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe send email to: oracle-l-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx put 'unsubscribe' in the subject line. -- Archives are at //www.freelists.org/archives/oracle-l/ FAQ is at //www.freelists.org/help/fom-serve/cache/1.html ----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- Please see the official ORACLE-L FAQ: http://www.orafaq.com ---------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe send email to: oracle-l-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx put 'unsubscribe' in the subject line. -- Archives are at //www.freelists.org/archives/oracle-l/ FAQ is at //www.freelists.org/help/fom-serve/cache/1.html -----------------------------------------------------------------
