I had to do something similar last year.

There was data on a 7.0 database that needed to be
available to a 10g database.

The solution I used was to create MV's on a 8i database. The MV's were
refreshed from the 7.0 database.

The 10g database then got the data from the MV's on the 8i database.

The 7.0 database is now thankfully gone.

I know 10g will connect to an 8.1.7 database ( I just did it ).

Perhaps it is because the database is 8.1.6?

Any chance of upgrading it to 8.1.7?

Has anyone gotten this error and found a way to resolve it?

I am trying to connect from a 10.2.0.1 client to an 8.1.6.1 database.

This is for the migration of the old prodwhs/ckprod2 databases on the old
Sun server D21 (8.1.6.1 database).

The user wants to write a program to access the tables on the old D21
server to test with and then later test against the new DE1 (10g) database.

I looked in metalink and the notes in there indicated that this problem
should have been resolved with the 10.2 client software but it does not
seem to work.

Any ideas?

Thanks…..Lisa
