From my experience this requests comes when lower management is asked
by higher management about some long term planning and they need a
baseline or history of certain metrics. Just ask first what is the
expected usage of the reports. It might boil down to reporting just a
couple figures each week you can get by running simple SQL queries piped
into mail.
