Great follow up Brandon. I think IBM should have implemented CIO along with DIO. Once a program is doing DIO, it takes on all coherency responsibilities anyway. I can't see why someone would ever want direct I/O with writes serialized. That is, CIO and DIO are sort of no-brainers together.
