RE: Backing up RMAN catalog database

Tom, where have you seen a 2nd rman catalog suggested by Oracle?  That
seems like overkill to me, plus then what would you do to backup your
2nd rman catalog - use a 3rd catalog, and then a 4th for that one and so
on?

The documentation I've seen suggests to use the recovery catalog
database's control file as the rman repository instead.  The below link
even says specfically "Do not use another recovery catalog as the
repository for the backups.":

The traditional (Oracle suggested) way is to have a second Rman catalog
on a different database server.  This catalog is used by the first Rman
database.
