Addie as an education chair it's helpful to know what is discussed with
this type of topic. If you need help Off optimal or have questions since
this is a new experience maybe some of the people who are responding could
help give you some background on this "hot" topic hopefully! Your efforts
of recruitment are great and yes this is a touchy subject so we can see
what transpires.

Darrin has a point. Even that mediocre, outdated "disclaimer" says "...the
scope of practice of medical professionals has been established
traditionally on the state level..." So if it's legal in an OPS member's
state & it's part of their routine then they should be qualified to teach
it. Including IV injections & Phlebotomist's IV insertion...

BTW, that disclaimer is what killed any efforts of trying to take steps in
"legalizing" IV injections in not only our state but many others. A
statement of SUPPORT from our profession is needed & it "neither advocates
or opposes" IV injections.

I believe the BOD made decisions multiple times to avoid taking a position
on this issue given the legal ramifications
I know for a fact during Paul Montague’s tenure ( twice) as President he
was adamant on this point. That was the time that an official disclaimer
was placed on our website, after consultation with the attorney that he
engaged. I believe that disclaimer is still on our website?

Just curious- why do you need an RN to give this talk? I’m not trying to
stir things up, but for those of us that are legal to inject fluorescein in
our state, why not ask within the OPS? I’m sure that whoever gives the talk
will need to precede it with an OPS disclaimer.
