Four vials! In todays world, that’s 20 cc’s of 10% or 10CC’s 25%. Totally
overkill. Marshall’s book may be slightly dated in terms of the chip
sensitivity of these modern instruments ( in my humble opinion)

There's a great dosing guide for the 10% in Marshall's book - but most
generally my docs have me mix four vials into juice (somewhat disguises the
color & taste) and two straws to really drink down fast.
Most times I'll try taking a base at 10 minutes (some of the young ones have
showing that early), but generally not until after 15 minutes.
Oral FAs are fine for the diabetics/AMD/..., but not for occlusions (no earlies)

Thanks for the cocktail recipe, I'll try it with fireball at my next black
light party. We have been using 4ml of 25% Fluorescein for oral FA on the
Optos. I like the idea of using only 2ml. Any other opinions out there?

We have a few patients a year that are extremely hard or impossible to stick.
We will get out the vein finder but usually not very helpful. So not to torture
these diabetic patients with more than my limit of sticks oral FA is a great
option. We use the Optos California and get amazing images.

Our department is looking to purchase a vein finder for those seemingly
impossible patients. I can't believe how expensive they are and need to make
sure that they actually work on the difficult patients. Easy patients are easy
and I don't need a $5,000 device for them.. Do these devices work well for the
obese, dialysis patients, severe diabetics etc.
