[optimal] Re: CPT Code for FAF

Right - I'm not sure what happens with the re-imbursement for that unlisted
code... Fundus Photography re-imburses quite a bit better than scanning
lasers/OCT.

While Heidelberg and other
manufacturers have made a push for a new code specific for FAF, to my knowledge
at this time, there is not. FAF shares the same code as color imaging.

You MAY however, bill under 92499
“Unlisted Ophthalmological Service or Procedure” and attach a letter or
supporting documentation as to why you think this procedure should be given
separate consideration.

This is the mechanism that we
employed for years to obtain a stand alone CPT code for Corneal Topography.
Keep in mind this can be a laborious process, and with limited success from
region to region throughout the country.

Denice,

Would you mind contacting me
offline regarding this? I am being told of an unspecified code provided to us
by Heidelberg regarding billing for FAF.

Thanks!

David

FAF is same code as color
imaging. Does not have it’s own CPT code at this time. If you do
FAF in combination with color imaging you can only bill for one.

Likewise, you cannot bill
separately for the Infrared.

Nice try though.

D.

Is anyone out there billing for FAF, or IR images off of the
HRA? If so, what code do you use? Thanks!

Thanks,

David
