Even I don't read novels with my Optacon these days, but I did it earlier.
Shame on me, perhaps, but I don't even read books in Braille today, even
though I read Braille from my Braille display every day. I don't think
this is lazyness as much as a time usage issue. Some years ago I tried to
read a familiar novel in Braille, but it may have been too familiar. It
was a novel written by Arto Paasilinna, a Finnish writer. A free
translation of the title would be something like 'Amazing Collective
Suiside, but it's written with humour. If I wrote the name in Finnish, it
would probably say nothing to most of you (smile). But I do read my daily
printed mail with my Optacon like I have told. Not very fast, but fast
enough in order to get the essential information. But the amount of
printed mail has decreased while nearly everything has been electronic.
Even my insurance documents are stored in an electronic folder.

I don’t use my optacon that often these days, but it still gets me out of
difficulties from time to time. I no longer read novels with it the way I
used to. I remember reading “The Name of the Rose” with it in the French
translation which a friend lent to me.
In fact, I read rather a lot of books with it back then, before the days of
eBooks.
