I'm not sure exactly what you're referring to in reading chords, but I find
it easy to read the chords that are written above the treble staff in
some music. They are often called guitar chords. I just find the top line of
the staff and move above it a bit and trace along that path. It's the
opposite of reading the words between the staves. Reading the combination of
notes that make up a chord is a lot slower and just as tedious as picking out
a
melody line or a harmony line. I don't bother with that but my ear for
such is good enough that I don't need to. But then I don't try to play exactly
to score. I play pop and jazz so in that sort of music it isn't necessary.

I've read words to hymns and other music with the Optacon. You can get
pretty good at jumping from one line of words to another under the various
staves. If you have the lens that magnifies (I've forgotten what it's
called), you can also tell whether single musical notes are on lines or
spaces, but it is very slow work. Chords are virtually impossible to
decipher. If anyone has found work-arounds for faster single-note reading
or
a way to read chords, I'd love to know about it!
