I hope you can get your Optacon fixed, as the Apple devices won't
help you read hand-writing or look at diagrams.
I still use my Optacon every day, and I have back-up Optacons as
well.
I do have a talking scanner, but when I switch it on it takes a
few minutes to warm up, and by that time I have identified the
document I want to read with the Optacon and may not then use the
scanner.
