Here are a couple of mistakes which have amused me with scanners.
I was reading a book using the Kurzweil reading machine at
Manchester's Central Library, and the name Lizzie was spoken as
Lee 22 that is. As it thought that the two letters Z were the
figure number 22, it presumed that the I E at the end of the name
was the symbol for that is.
The other mistake was when I had the Robotron scanner at home.
I was reading a newsletter from British Telecom, my then
employers. It referred to an engineer climbing a pole to sort
out a loose wife.
During my time using the Kurzweil I read the autobiography by
Henry Cooper. After I had finished that book, whenever I heard
any of Henry's well-known phrases it seemed strange hearing them
in his own voice after I had heard them on the scanner.
A slightly erotic passage was ruined on the Kurzweil when it said
"he put his hand on her breest".
Keep well.
