Hardly old news. It hasn't happened yet. It should happen soon. Discovery,
which includes or will include Scripps, and a bunch of others, putting together
a bundle that DOES NOT include the previously mandatory ESPN. The most
expensive of all networks. Once again:
"According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, media companies including
Viacom, Discovery, AMC Networks, A+E Networks, and Scripps Interactive are
joining together to create a sports-free streaming service that will have a
'soft launch' in the coming weeks."
The article was dated September 12th. How can you call this "old news"?
Sorry, but Discovery and Scripps do not have a vast library of
content to sell that could justify the $20/mo price,
Obviously, they aren't going it alone, Craig. This is what "the bundle is
unraveling" means. Content that was only available in one package is now
unpackaged, and combined with other content in different ways. If Sling TV
wasn't enough to prove that point to you, this new article make it ABUNDANTLY
CLEAR.
As to the accelerating cord cutting phenomenon, if anything, the phenomenon
would no doubt be much faster than it is, except for the last-ditch measures
the cablecos are using, to keep people from bailing. But they can't afford the
bloated salaries of those pro athletes, if they persist with last-ditch hail
maries.
The Internet is now permitting options that were not technically feasible just
a mere 12-15 years ago. Give it up, Craig.
