Exactly. The IP overhead added, as required, when required.
Wow. What a great idea!
But we've discussed this option many times here on OpenDTV.
It is no different than the cable-to-WiFi boxes the cable industry has been
deploying for several years, to allow tablets and smartphones to access cable
programming. Like the cable boxes, this ATSC 3.0 box transcodes from MPEG-2 to
h.264, to take advantage of the standards used in virtually all new mobile
devices. The only "new tech" here is the electronically steerable antenna that
makes reception of the off-air signals reliable...
As for IP overhead, it says nothing. The cable boxes ALSO connect to broadband
to access streaming video services, and the article makes no mention about the
transport used for ATSC 3.0 bits.
