I wouldn't be so quick to buy into the political hype, Craig. But it is 
interesting that they are asking the same questions.

If I were Ofcom, I would be rethinking DAB, with its slice in the L band (as 
well as high VHF). If you want to free up spectrum for handheld devices, one of 
the first moves ought to be to keep radio down in the medium wave and low VHF, 
where it sits now, and introduce digital radio in that same spectrum. Don't you 
think? These frequencies are in low demand, and they work fine for one-way 
broadcast radio.

The L band is perfect for handheld devices. High VHF is good for terrestrial 
TV. (Of course, give it more power than FM stations, or it might be hard to 
receive!)

Even if Ofcom doesn't want to use the proprietary Ibiquity scheme, they could 
go to DRM instead.

That would be  start.
