CEA/ HDTV Helps Increase Home Theater Furniture Sales June 9, 2004 12:00am Source: Reed Business Information - US TWICE : ARLINGTON, VA.-- More than one-third of=20 television owners, 37 percent, without=20 high-definition TV (HDTV) said they will buy an=20 HDTV set within the next two years, according to=20 results from a Consumer Electronics Association=20 (CEA) study. This trend has significant implications for the=20 home theater furniture industry, according to CEA. CEA's report, called "New Tech TVs and=20 =46urniture," showed 56 percent of TV owners=20 without high-tech sets would buy a TV stand,=20 cabinet or entertainment center. The study also=20 showed 36 percent would buy at the same time as=20 purchasing a high-tech TV, and 20 percent would=20 buy after purchasing a new high-tech TV. "The emergence of new television technologies=20 has created both a challenge and an opportunity=20 for accessory vendors," said Paul Sabbah,=20 VP/business development, Techcraft Manufacturing,=20 and chairman of CEA's Accessories division home=20 theater working group. "These survey results show the strong influence=20 that the widespread adoption of new digital TV=20 technologies is having on other segments of the=20 industry, such as the home theatre furniture=20 category," said Sean Wargo, industry analysis=20 director of CEA. Other key findings from the survey include=20 feedback on where consumers plan to place the=20 television, with 36 percent of TV owners without=20 high-tech sets placing the set in a cabinet or=20 entertainment center if they bought a new=20 technology TV. Another 34 percent would mount the=20 television on a wall or ceiling and 13 percent=20 would place it on a TV stand. Nearly 73 percent of all TV owners preferred=20 television furniture that matches the room's=20 decor, while 18 percent said they would chose=20 furniture that matched the television. Nearly 48=20 percent of TV owners expressed interest in=20 customizable furniture for consumer electronics=20 products.
