Yes, stuck in the mud as the thinking is for the STB issue. Once again, the FCC
is using old school thinking for something that doesn't matter anymore. Sites
like Sling TV evolved just fine all by themselves, with no one propping up some
archaic business model to be recreated over IP nets.
Unfortunately, the FCC either lacks the authority, or the balls, to
force the content owners
Once again, NO NEED. Just as there is NO NEED for any retro thinking about
cable STBs, there is NO NEED for retro thinking about the old school MVPD
model. It's just like that one article said. It's the content owners own
self-interest that will break apart "the bundle," and we're seeing it happen.
I know Craig, that you seem determined to continue doing what is in the best
interest of your MVPD's old way of doing things. But most people aren't that
way.
The emphasis on linear channels is critical
Absurd. As more and more people watch on demand, the pretense that the linear
stream is critical increases in absurdity. Les Moonves figured that out, for
example. As did all of the movie channels.
The emphasis on linear streams, for VMVPDs, is proof of the retro thinking
problem.
No you cannot. You must pay for a MVPD bundle with 20 channels
Are you trying to tell us that in order to get ESPN on Sling TV, you have to
buy into the same bundle, and pay the same amount, as you would on your legacy
MVPD, Craig? You are flat wrong. It's nothing like a simple move of the MVPD
"the bundle" to the Internet. And more, it did not require any FCC anything. It
happened only because the owners saw the benefit.
