I bought an HD-DVD player from the Warehouse Retailer Sam's Club a couple of weeks ago. Great closeout price of $69, plus two HD-DVD movies were packaged with the player: 300 and Bourne Identity.
The unit has provisions to be connected to the internet, and indeed the manual strongly advises that the user do so in order to download the latest software revisions "to be fully compatible with the enhanced features found on HD-DVD disks."
I wonder if they could also push a list of "broken" titles to the player, thus locking them? Blu-Ray also touts it's connectivity, and also strongly advises an IP connection to keep the software 'up to date.'

BD+ is designed to be responsive to attempts to circumvent it, so it is likely that Macrovision will be able to take steps to re-lock compromised Blu-ray titles. Indeed, Macrovision suggests such action is forthcoming.
