Hi.
If you are using this pc as a personal pc, for example checking email, browsing
the web or writing documents, you don't need to pay for jaws.
Nvda should work fine.
It's hands down the best free windows screen reader.
If your computer has windows 8 you may also want to check out narrator.
It has been considerably improved over windows 7 and also supports the touch
screen if you have one.

Hello all,
So I've been doing some research on NVDA, and I must say that it seems very
interesting. My wife and I just bought a Toshiba Laptop two days ago, running
Windows 8. And from what I've heard, unless you have Jaws 14 or higher, then
Jaws won't work on W 8. I've thought about getting Jaws 15 when it comes out
from Jaws 11, but I can imagine that would probably be pretty expensive, and
since we are just coming off of paying for our wedding, that may be put on
hold… However, after listening to a few podcasts on NVDA, and hearing about
what all it can do, along with the fact that it is free and open sourced, I
think I may give this a try. So I was wondering, do any of y'all use NVDA, and
if so, what do you think of it? I heard that this particular program can be
used with Windows 8, so of course that's always a plus… I joined the freelist
mailing list for NVDA, but I no that there are some other mailing list… So I
was curious to know which ones would you guys recommend me joining besides the
one that I just subscribed to?
