I've had a couple unusual sightings here on Rummel Street in McMinnville the
last couple days.

June 30 I had a WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE, an occasional visitor to this yard.

Today, July 2, I had a HAIRY WOODPECKER.  The only previous sighting was
June 25 - 26, 2013.  However, this bird puzzled me when I looked more
closely.  The red on its head was a large bright patch on the crown, not a
spot on the nape.  After some research I learned that juvenile male hairy
woodpeckers have the red crown patch.
