They also nest on or near to Ridgefield NWR close to Lake River that is just
across the river. I suspect they do as well on inaccessible portions of
Vancouver Lake.

I'm pretty sure they're nesting somewhere on the roadless portion of Sauvie

I believe they nest at Smith and Bybee Lakes in Portland.

I'm interested in the answer also. But, where did the 561 eBirds at Smith &
Bybee lakes come from? Or go to?
And especially that long ago?

One change is that Great Egret did not breed in western Oregon until the
1980s—I don’t have the year handy. Colonies expanded to Coos Bay then. They now
breed in small numbers at Florence and, presumably, west of Eugene, where
perhaps 15-30 have summered in the last ten years or so. I surmise that they
nest in the broad ash stands south of Fern Ridge Reservoir.
I seem to recall recent breeding at Alsea Bay, but that may have been a dream.
Is there other breeding north of these areas?
