One change is that Great Egret did not breed in western Oregon until the
1980s—I don’t have the year handy. Colonies expanded to Coos Bay then. They now
breed in small numbers at Florence and, presumably, west of Eugene, where
perhaps 15-30 have summered in the last ten years or so. I surmise that they
nest in the broad ash stands south of Fern Ridge Reservoir.
I seem to recall recent breeding at Alsea Bay, but that may have been a dream.
Is there other breeding north of these areas?
