Lars post reminds me that I heard several migrant, calling Swainson's Thrushes up Bethel Mtn. in SW Coos on dawn on the 17th, pretty earlier for migrants but there were quite a few calls overhead but just for a few minutes. I usually don't hear big numbers until the last few days of the month. Making that dripping water sound, so I'm guessing they are southbound birds landing for the day. I'm always awake at that hour and have heard none for weeks. Alan, Nels Nelson counted 400 Brown Pelicans at Hammond this Monday morning. Also a generous compliment of Heerman's Gulls. I've barely made it to saltwater this summer, but have been impressed by the low numbers of both birds where I went.
