When I saw the Plover this morning it was at the North edge of the gravel road
by a wet area.

Hello all,
I was asked for clarification on where I observed the bird today at 2pm.
The plover is still in a drainage ditch on private property to the west of
the intersection of Smith Loop and Highway 99.
Since I am a past employee of one of the farms that uses this private road I
knew they would not mind me using it. I was able to drive right up to it. I
was scanning distant portions of the field when I lowered my binoculars to
the surprise that the bird was sitting about 10 meters away from me just to
the south of the private road.
My advice to (legally) locate it would be to watch from the intersection of
99 and Smith Loop, look WEST down the gravel road, two fields down, and look
immediately to the SOUTH of the roadbed. If you look at google maps the
drainage ditch it is using is obvious. Spotting scope would be recommended
for sure.
Good luck all!

P.S. Cody, if you get a chance could you please clarify for Mid-Valley
birders and OBOL where you *did* see the bird today?
Smith Loop Rd. is a public road so far as I know, so that would be helpful
for birders who'd like to see this bird and have been holding off due to
initial reports that the bird was seen from a private road. Golden-Plovers
tend to be popular birds for birders to look for, as we only get one or two
per year in the mid-Willamette Valley.
Thanks,
Joel

It is South Smith Loop. When I found the bird at 2pm today in my opinion it
would be quite difficult to observe from Highway 99.

P.S. Since Smith Loop Road has two junctions with Hwy 99W, a couple of
miles apart, it could be helpful if someone "in the know" can say which
end is closer to the location of the sightings thus far ....
