At 11:00 AM I located a drake goldeneye hybrid (Common X Barrow's) at the LNG
Tank east of Newport.

The bird has a white facial patch that is nearly circular, but comes up to a
point dorsally - much shorter than a Barrow's crescent.

The amount of white on the wing coverts is intermediate.

The iridescence on the head looks maroon from some angles, greenish from
others.

Lower Yaquina Bay has had at least one hybrid every winter for several years.

This bird looks a bit different, but may not have finished molting out of
eclipse plumage.
