Hi all,
To add to other Willamette Valley records that have been mentioned,
Trent Seager reported at least a couple of Swainson's Hawks back in the
early 2000s, which are mentioned in the Corvallis Audubon field notes.
One of them was an immature bird near Suver. I can't recall specifics on
the others. Trent didn't get photos but I would count him as having a
great deal of relevant experience for this species.
Trent worked on Swainson's Hawks as part of the research team that
discovered the ghastly problem with pesticide poisoning of thousands of
them, on their wintering grounds in Argentina. This is written up in
Scott Weidensaul's book, "Living On The Wind," if anyone is looking for
some good reading for February.
