I've had one perched in a box put up in an oak next to the garage... I see
it each morning about 7 and each evening about 5... presumably, it's
snoozing inside the box during the day... now if I can just get 2 perched
together, I'll feel more secure that they will use it as their nest box.

Sure enough, there it was, perched nicely in the nest hole used in 2008.
We have been hearing one or two singing each night for the past week and so
courtship is on and though we remain hopeful they'll again nest here, last
year we also found one perched in the nest hole (only once on this same
date January 30) and they nested elsewhere (they were still frequent
visitors to our yard and so I assume they nested somewhere close by).
