Even more exciting was re-checking the nest hole at 5:30PM and seeing 2
owls perched in the nest hole! They can start nesting now even though this
is much earlier than usual.

Sure enough, there it was, perched nicely in the nest hole used in 2008.
We have been hearing one or two singing each night for the past week and so
courtship is on and though we remain hopeful they'll again nest here, last
year we also found one perched in the nest hole (only once on this same
date January 30) and they nested elsewhere (they were still frequent
visitors to our yard and so I assume they nested somewhere close by).
