It's always a good day when one finds a Western Screech-owl in one's yard.
Though we have a small yard with only 2 mature trees, one has several holes
suitable for nesting and Screech-owls have nested in our yard 8 years ago
and 5 years ago. Since then we have often heard, and sometimes seen, one
or two in our yard but they haven't nested since then. Today one was found
perched in the same nest hole they used 8 years ago. This would be quite
early for them to nest, but apparently it can occur this early and so I'm
hopeful, but recognize this one may just be roosting.
