The Wednesday morning group decided to head out west to Zumwalt park on the southwest portion of Fern Ridge Reservoir. The weather turned out to be pretty nice (dry) which wasn't what we had expected at all. The highlight of the day was watching a pair of Red-shouldered Hawks courting and calling and then sitting together on top of a large pine tree for great viewing through the scope. Birds seen: Canada Goose Mallard Great Egret-one in the shallow water off W. 11th Turkey Vulture-3- one flyover & two sitting on an old Osprey nesting platform along W 11th Bald Eagle-2 adults Sharp-shinned Hawk- one from coffee shop parking lot as leaving to bird Red-shouldered Hawk-2 Red-tailed Hawk Dunlin-one large flock flying over the lake Northern Flicker Steller's Jay Western Scrub Jay American Crow Common Raven Black-capped Chickadee Red-breasted Nuthatch Pacific Wren Marsh Wren American Robin Varied Thrush Spotted Towhee Fox Sparrow Song Sparrow Golden-crowned Sparrow Dark-eyed Junco Red-winged Blackbird European Starling Steve & Judy Franzen, Vickie Buck, Dave Brown, Dave Jones, and Don Schrouder.
